The New Rural Advocate aims to build connections for a vibrant rural community in Western Massachusetts and beyond.
The site was launched by Joshua Wachtel in 2018. Josh is a musician, teen educator and communications specialist in the field of restorative practices. His band Radio Free Earth has produced eight albums and he has performed hundreds of concerts since founding the group in 1998. Josh lives in Cummington, Massachusetts where he aspires to cultivate resilient community through music, teaching and community organizing.
